Type 321H is a titanium-stabilized austenitic stainless steel that is known for its general corrosion resistance. This higher carbon version of Type 321 stainless steel offers a wide variety of benefits including:

  • Excellent resistance oxidation to 1500°F (816°C)
  • Good low-temperature toughness
  • Comparable corrosion resistance and machinability to Type 304
  • Readily welded by most standard processes
  • Very ductile and forms easily

Because of Type 321H’s features and properties, it can be found in use in a number of industries and critical applications including:

  • Expansion joints
  • Chemical and Petrochemical processing
  • Pharmaceutical production
  • Waste treatment including thermal oxidizers
  • Equipment and storage units for Food processing
  • Aerospace applications

For a stainless steel to receive the Type 321H label, it must have the following chemical composition. It is important to note that Type 321H has a much higher carbon level than Type 321:

  • Fe balance
  • Cr 17-19%
  • Ni 9-12%
  • C 0.04-0.10%
  • Si 18-20%
  • Mn 2% max
  • P 0.045% max
  • S 0.03% max
  • N 0.10% max
  • Ti 0.70% max

All of the metals that Continental Steel supplies of Type 321H meet the most respected international standards including ASTM, ASME, and AMS.
