Monel® Grades

Continental Steel & Tube Company supplies Monel® material grades in various forms and sizes. We are an ISO 9001:2015 and AS9120B:2016 certified company dedicated to providing customers with high-quality products, short lead times, and prompt delivery.

A trademark of Special Metals, Monel® is a family of nickel-copper alloys. Monel alloy 400 (UNS N04400), 405 (UNS N04405), and K500 (UNS N05500) are three common grades within this family. Learn more about the forms and sizes we supply, as well as the properties which make each well suited to their applications.

Common Monel® Alloys

Continental Steel offers the three main types of Monel® grades. Each has unique properties that are best suited to certain applications.

Nickel Alloy 400, Monel® 400

Continental Steel supplies these specific forms and sizes of Monel® 400:

  • Monel® 400 Round Bar from 1/8″ diameter up to 12″ diameter or more
  • Monel® 400 Hex Bar from 1/4″ to 2″ diameter
  • Monel® 400 Sheet from .016 to .125″ thick
  • Monel® 400 Plate from 3/16″ up to 3″ thick
  • Monel® 400 Tube Seamless and Welded from 1/16″ OD to 3″ OD with wall thicknesses from .010″ to .120″
  • Monel® 400 Pipe Seamless and Welded 1/8″ to 20″ from Sch. 10 to Sch. XXH

If you need a size not listed above, reach out to us—we can check if it is possible to quote.

Monel® 400 is used to withstand extreme environments, high pressures, and subzero to high temperatures up to 1,000 °C. It is a popular material for these applications due to the following properties:

  • Excellent thermal conductivity and ductility
  • Exceptional weldability
  • High melting point
  • Superior corrosion resistance
  • Toughness and high strength

Nickel Alloy 405, Monel® R-405

Continental Steel supplies the following forms and sizes of Monel® 405:

  • Monel® 405 Round Bar 1/4″ to 3″ diameter
  • Monel® 405 Hex Bar 1/4″ to 3-1/8″

If you need a size not listed above, reach out to us—we can check if it is possible to quote.

Monel® 405 is ideal for demanding acidic environments because it offers excellent resistance to sulfuric acid, seawater, alkalis, steam at high temperatures, and chloride-induced corrosion cracking. Its other properties include:

  • Reliable performance at subzero temperatures
  • High strength and durability

Nickel Alloy K500, Monel® K-500

At Continental Steel, we supply these forms and sizes of Monel® K-500:

  • Monel® K-500 Round Bar QQ-N-286 REV. E, F & G. 1/4″ diameter to 4″ diameter
  • Monel® K-500 Sheet .032 to .125″ thick
  • Monel® K-500 Plate 3/16″ to 2-1/2″ thick

If you need a size not listed above, reach out to us—we can check if it is possible to quote.
Monel® K-500 features unique properties that make it considerably stronger and harder than other grades of Monel®. The nickel-copper alloy contains aluminum and titanium for additional strength and hardness. This grade stands out from other alloys due to its excellent physical and mechanical characteristics:

  • Chemical and corrosion resistance
  • Low permeability
  • Nonmagnetic
  • Dimensional stability
