Alloy 20, also known as Carpenter® 20 and Incoloy® 20, is an austenitic nickel-iron-chromium alloy. This super alloy, which also includes copper and molybdenum, is popular in the production of gasoline, solvents, explosives, chemicals, pharmaceuticals, food, and synthetic materials. It offers users a wide variety of benefits including:
- Excellent resistance to corrosion, crevice corrosion, and pitting
- Perfect for use around sulfuric, phosphoric, and nitric acids
- Ease of fabrication and elevated mechanical properties
Available in flat bar, forging stock, hexagon, plate, pipe, sheet, strip, round bar, tube, and wire, Alloy 20 can be fabricated to produce:
- Mixing Tanks
- Heat Exchangers
- Process Piping
- Pickling Equipment
- Pumps, valves, fasteners, and fittings
Alloy 20 meets or exceeds different industry standards including a multitude of ASTM, ASME, ISO, and DIN standards. TIG, MIG, and SAW welding can be used on Alloy 20 and can be formed through hot and cold working.
Alloy 20 has a unique chemical composition:
- Fe 31-44% balance
- Ni 32.5-35%
- Cr 19-21%
- Cu 3-4%
- Mo 2-3%
Due to its high nickel content (32-38%), there is some disagreement whether Alloy 20 is a nickel or a stainless steel alloy. No matter what side of the discussion you fall on, it is clear that Alloy 20 is an excellent choice for a wide variety of industries and applications. At Continental Steel, we are proud to stock and sell Nickel Alloy 20, Carpenter® 20, and Incoloy® 20 in all of the popular sizes and forms.
We stock and sell Nickel Alloy 20, Carpenter® 20, and Incoloy® 20 in Flat Bar, Forging Stock, Hexagon, Plate, Pipe, Sheet, Strip, Round Bar, Tube, and Wire.
