From Carbon Plates to Oil Containers

Carbon steel plates can be used for a number of things in the industrial world. Continental Steel & Tube stands out as a distributor of plates used in oil container tanks.  We provide the plates and roll them, so when the material arrives on site it is ready for assembly.

For these gigantic oil containers, carbon steel plates are rolled into the proper shape and size. The plates can be rolled to different degrees and radiuses depending on the customers’ specifications, but as you can see in the pictures below, the oil tanks will be on the larger end.

These finished containers we rolled steel for can hold 70 thousand barrels of oil at capacity. In the US Market, a barrel of oil is 42 gallons, giving this behemoth container the capacity to hold nearly 3 million gallons of oil.

If you are in this business we can be an important supplier for your jobs.  The oil industry was a hot topic during the first week of July 2013, with prices rising as high as $102 per barrel, reports the Associated Press. To put that in context, a container the size of this one would be able to fit over $7 million worth of oil.

If you’re dealing with anything valued that highly, the materials used in the container need to be top notch! That’s why we offer a variety of carbon plate grades, like A36, A572 gr 50, A515 gr 70, A516 gr 70, A588, A514 – T1, & ABS grade carbon steel.  We can also roll structural items like carbon angle and channel to be used on the same projects.
